Free annual community event for Shrove Tuesday, marks the beginning of Lent

The 40 days of Lent are traditionally a solemn season of sacrifice and fasting. For this reason, rich foods such as eggs, milk, and sugar, are to be used up on Shrove Tuesday, the last day before Lent. What better way to utilize these staple items than to make hot, delicious pancakes? At Holy Trinity Clearview Anglican Church in Duntroon, the annual pancake dinner uses this tradition to support the communities of Duntroon, Batteaux, Singhampton, and surrounding area. Except for the years during the Covid shutdown, the church has hosted a pancake dinner every year since its inception.

Featuring pancakes, syrup, sausages, and home baked pies, Holy Trinity Clearview’s pancake dinner is one not to miss. The meal is completely free, prepared by volunteers and funded largely by donations. The dinner runs on Shrove Tuesday, Feb. 13, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., at Holy Trinity Clearview’s church hall, affectionately known as “The Old School House,” located at 4 St. Clair St., Duntroon.

With a come-and-go format, there are no tickets required. While there is no charge, if an attendee wishes to make a donation at the door, all proceeds will go directly back into the community, supporting local organizations such as area food banks and shelters.

Incumbent Father Ray Dobson gave thanks to the volunteers, saying, “I am convinced that God has and is, and will do amazing things through (these) people… we are called to bring to this area and beyond infinitely more than we could ask or imagine. Remember you can never outgive God. Live and love selflessly.”

Holy Trinity Clearview established itself as a newly formed Anglican Parish in September 2017, comprised of the former Anglican Parishes of Christ Church, Batteaux (founded in 1865), Church of the Redeemer, Duntroon (founded in 1875) and St. Paul’s Anglican Church, Singhampton (founded in 1875).

Holy Trinity Clearview worships at the former Church of the Redeemer, Duntroon, and continues to serve the villages of Singhampton, Batteaux, and Duntroon, as well as the surrounding rural area.

Regular worship times at Holy Trinity Clearview, Duntroon are Sundays at 10 am. The church is located at 4 St. Clair Street, Duntroon, just south of the Duntroon Daycare. Fore more information, visit www. holytrinityclearview.com.
