County Road 91 enhances travel, cycling

 In Letters, Opinion

Editor:
I have recently emailed the mayor and members of the Clearview council to state our concern regarding the closure of County Road 91. I wanted to reach out to you as this is a significant issue for Collingwood area residents.
My husband and I own property at Lighthouse Point in Collingwood and travel regularly from there to our home in Mississauga. Our route includes County Road 91 and the use of this road enhances our travel. We also use 91 when cycling and it contributes to our recreational enjoyment of the Georgian Triangle area. Many tourism dollars are generated by cycling enthusiasts.
We are very concerned about the closure as noted in the Save91.ca website, and are very surprised this road, which has been developed at public expense and recently upgraded with a high-quality paving job, is proposed to be sold to Walker Industries. This is a critical route for all the residents in this area, for the use of farmers, and efficient access for EMS services etc, for recreation and tourism.
Another major point of contention is the destruction of the environment which would occur to develop 26/27 Sideroad. Natural features of the environment which are currently in a relatively natural state would be disturbed, including streams, valleys, wetlands and forests. Important plant and animal habitats would be destroyed, geological features and cultural heritage features would be compromised. With the high level of importance now placed on saving the climate and retaining the natural beauty of our country, the importance of this cannot be understated.
Barbara Cooper,
Collingwood.
